JUNIPER - AUSTIN
For this edition of the Walker’s Table, each table setting came with a small succulent from the local Tillery St. Plant Co. which doubled as a name tag which guests were able to take home as a gift. Our welcome cocktail, the “High Street Highball”, was made with the Johnnie Walker High Rye Tea Blend syrup and coconut water then topped with ginger ale. A flavorful highball style cocktail that was delicious, easy to make, and simple to batch in large quantities. Our guestlist consisted of local influencers such as the host of the podcast “Show de Vie” Mike G. Who later outlined the Johnnie Walker High Rye on his TikTok channel “Mikewiththemasterplan” where he reviews whisky brands and encourages people to either buy them or pass on a purchase. You’ll be happy to learn our new High Rye received a glowing review and was suggest to buy! We hosted a local San Antonio award winning chef, Adrian Lipscomb, who recently made headlines when she hosted a pop up for a BIPOC charity called “Black Mamas” at Canje and is a catalyst for urban change.
Among other guests we had a local stunt man with a side passion project of mixing cocktails and talking whisky on his social media outlets. A local tattoo artist who has cornered the market for feminine line work and self-marketing in her field. An agent of local singer song writer, Robyn Shayne, with an 80k following. Key trade members, buyers from our distributor partners, influential hospitality experts, an essential worker who is a die-hard whisky enthusiast through and through and an Austin food, drink and experience Instagram influencer. Dinner and cocktail pairing highlights consisted of a Cacio e pepe dish that paired beautifully with the “Don Vito”, a variation of a classic NY sour, and an olive oil cake that came with the “Ciao Bello” which was a sweet, cabinet spice-esque and black label forward dessert cocktail. We took a break to sample the High Rye, Black Label, Double Black and Blue before the olive oil cake and the conversation over each mark truly took on a life of its own. I was mostly shocked at how engaging this group was during the tasting portion. Shocked in a great way because I was able to engage in real time with some guests who were trying these marks, especially the High Rye, for the first time and I received their authentic reactions about the liquid. I have since seen High Rye on more backbars, in posts, and on whisky review channels as a result. And some amazing relationships were forged as well, expect more experiences and collaborations to come from these connections.
